In times of persecution, when the Hebrews were unable to wear identifying symbols, they did tie about their hands a red thread to put them in mind of the blood of the covenant of the Law.
Touching the name, Moses called Ti-Taphoth, which as many etymologies, however,was used in ancient rites and for many different interpretations. The Septuagint translates them as immovable ornaments. The Rabbines call them Tephilim, prayer ornaments.[1] .
